This week’s roundup of the 10 most popular shows on Max is almost identical to the one from seven days ago. Key favorites like Our Flag Means Death and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver are still hanging around, although Our Flag Means Death has dropped down to No. 5 in the week since its season 2 finale was streamed. In its place, there’s a new No. 1 show: The Gilded Age, which returned for its second season last weekend.
Beyond that, it’s largely the same old Discovery reality shows, including three different incarnations of 90 Day Fiancé. There’s also the intriguing sci-fi animated series Scavengers Reign, which is holding fast at no. 4, the same spot it had last week.

If you need another example of just how far the TLC brand has fallen, we give you Sister Wives, the reality show about Kody Brown and his multiple wives: Robyn, Meri, Janelle, and Christine. Technically, Kody’s only legally married to one wife at a time, but he’s still a polygamist. And TLC has somehow cranked 19 seasons out of this so-called reality show.
At least when HBO had Big Love, a scripted drama about a polygamist family, it was entertaining! We can’t say the same for Sister Wives.

Welcome to the flagship show of the “90 Day Universe.” On 90 Day Fiancé, couples are comprised of American citizens and a potential partner from another country who travels to the U.S. The couples then have 90 days to court each other, fall in love, and get married, or else the partner has to go home to their country. Maybe this show should be called Project Green Card.
6. Doom Patrol (2019)
It’s worth mentioning that DC shows still perform well in the top ten on Max, even Doom Patrol. Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Robotman (The Whale‘s Brendan Fraser), Cyborg (Joivan Wade), and Madame Rouge (Michelle Gomez) are pretty far from the A-list of superheroes. And yet this show survived for three additional seasons after it migrated to Max from the DC Universe streaming service.
But this is the end of the road for these admittedly weird heroes. Once the fourth season ends, their story is over.
5. Our Flag Means Death (2022)
You wouldn’t guess from the title that Our Flag Means Death is a mostly comedic series about two pirates in love. But it is, and the show isn’t afraid to go dark as well. Following the events of season 1, Edward “Blackbeard” Teach (Taika Waititi) believes that Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) has abandoned their love, and thus Blackbeard has embraced his inner villain and become more abusive to his crew.
Meanwhile, Stede has realized his mistake and he wants nothing more than to reunite with Ed before his Blackbeard persona gets him killed by an increasingly angry crew. Nothing’s ever easy on the high seas, but these pirates will be back together again.
4. Scavengers Reign (2023)
Do you remember all of those Earth-like worlds that you’ve seen in Star Trek and Star Wars? You won’t see anything like that in Scavengers Reign, the new Max original animated series that takes place on an alien world that looks like something created by Studio Ghibli.
Azi (Wunmi Mosaku), Levi (Alia Shawkat), Ursula (Sunita Mani), Sam (Bob Stephenson), and Kamen (Ted Travelstead) have crashed on an unnamed planet that is unlike anything they’ve ever seen. This alien world is very inhospitable, and it may even turn the crew against each other when it unleashes some body horror transformations on the unsuspecting humans who should never have come there.

Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes brought The Gilded Age to HBO, and that investment is paying off with the show’s debut on top of this list following the second season premiere. The series is set about 20 years after the Civil War, and it chronicles the clash of a “new money” family, the Russells, and the van Rhijn-Brook family, who are about as “old money” as it gets.
Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) steps right into the middle of that when she is forced by circumstance to move in with her wealthy aunts, Ada Brook (Sex and the City‘s Cynthia Nixon) and Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski). Meanwhile, Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) will do almost anything to get the high society people to accept and like her. But if anyone gets in Bertha’s way, they’ll soon discover that it’s a mistake to cross her.
