After spending months in theaters, Oppenheimer is the biggest title on this month’s guide to VOD (Video on Demand) and Digital. Aside from Dumb Money and Dicks: The Musical, the other new releases in November don’t have very high profiles. But there are films that have really impressive casts, especially The Kill Room.
Many of the titles on November’s round-up only had limited releases in theaters, so their premiere on VOD and digital represents their first real chance to find an audience. It’s a surprisingly strong lineup this month, which is great if you prefer to keep your theatrical experience at home. It’s definitely a lot cheaper than buying multiple movie tickets.

Outlaw Johnny Black (2023)
Remember Black Dynamite? The star of that film, Michael Jai White, is back with a new movie, Outlaw Johnny Black, that he wrote, directed, and headlined as the title character. Much like Black Dynamite, Outlaw Johnny Black is more of a comedy than anything else. But there’s plenty of action too.
In the Old West, Johnny is out for revenge on Brett Clayton (Chris Browning) for the death of his father. Unfortunately for Johnny, circumstances force him to hide out as a small town’s new preacher. Johnny may not know much about the word of God, but no one can claim that he isn’t a man of action.

The Blind (2023)
Despite what you may have heard, The Blind is not Duck Dynasty: The Movie. It is, however, a biopic about Duck Dynasty‘s Phil Robertson (Aron von Andrian), long before he became a reality TV show personality or the founder of Duck Commander.
Most of the film is set in the ’60s as Phil battles addiction and his inner demons while also finding love with his future wife,
Kay Robertson (Amelia Eve). But in order to truly turn his life around, Phil is going to need to rely on his faith and the emotional support of Kay.

The Kill Room (2023)
The Kill Room flew under the radar in theaters, but it has one of the most star-studded casts in this month’s VOD round-up. It’s also got a Pulp Fiction reunion as Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson share the screen as an art dealer named Patrice and a shadowy underworld figure named Gordon, respectively.
Gordon has hit upon the idea of using Patrice’s gallery as a money laundering front by sending her artwork by a professional killer, Reggie (Joe Manganiello). Although his paintings are terrible, the modern art world embraces Reggie’s persona, The Bag Man. And for Reggie, making art may be more of a killing than actually killing people.

Dumb Money (2023)
It was inevitable that someone would make a movie about the 2021 GameStop short squeeze, and director Craig Gillespie stepped up to do so. This is a fictionalized version of the story, but it’s largely true to life. Paul Dano headlines the ensemble cast as Keith Gill, a YouTube stock enthusiast who sinks his life savings into GameStop’s stocks even before he realizes that rich investors and hedge fund owners are placing big bets of their own that the stock will fall.
With Keith’s help, armchair investors turn the tables on the professional investors and drive up the price of GameStop’s stock to unsustainable highs. A few overnight millionaires are born, but what goes up must come down. The rest of the cast includes Pete Davidson, Vincent D’Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, Shailene Woodley, Seth Rogen, and Dane DeHaan.

Carlos (2023)
In the music industry, Carlos Santana is a legend who has a legacy that goes back nearly five decades, and he’s far from finished. Director Rudy Valdez’s new documentary, Carlos, tells the story of Santana’s life in his own words, and also via interviews with his family and the people who know him best.
The film also looks back at Santana’s early life in Mexico to his rise as a musician at Woodstock in 1969, and his indelible musical journey that earned him 10 Grammy nominations across the span of his career.

Foe (2023)
Love is hard even under the best of circumstances, and things are far from ideal in the future world of Foe. Junior (Paul Mescal) and his wife, Henrietta (Saoirse Ronan), have a quiet life on the farm until a stranger named Terrance (Aaron Pierre) makes the offer of a lifetime.
Terrance informs Junior that he has a chance to live and work on an orbiting space station for multiple years, but Henrietta will have to remain behind. Terrance also promises that Henrietta will have a robot companion to look after her, but an increasingly jealous Junior suspects that Terrance intends to stay with Henrietta himself.

Butcher’s Crossing (2022)
Butcher’s Crossing is a Western, but not the type of Western that involves shootouts or bandits. Instead, it follows a college dropout, Will Andrews (Fred Hechinger), who has a hopelessly romanticized vision of the Wild West in his head. Because Will wants to experience a buffalo hunt of his own, he hires an eccentric hunter named Miller (Nicolas Cage) to lead him to a herd.
Charlie (Xander Berkeley) and Fred (Jeremy Bobb) also join the hunting party, but no one is prepared for the taste for slaughter that Miller has. Nor are the men ready when they find themselves trapped by both the harsh weather and their own greed.

Dicks: The Musical (2023)
If you think that the title of Dicks: The Musical is provocative, then you should see the name that co-creators Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson came up with for the original play. Note that we can’t repeat that title on this site. Sharp and Jackson also reprise their roles from their musical play as business rivals, Craig and Trevor.
Craig and Trevor may start off on the wrong foot, but they soon figure out that they are twin brothers who were separated for decades. So they decide to pull a Parent Trap by tricking their parents, Harris (Nathan Lane) and Evelyn (Megan Mullally), into getting back together. Trust us when we say that this is the most tame part of the movie. It only gets crazier from there as the play really starts pushing some buttons.

The Stones and Brian Jones (2023)
Only the most devoted Rolling Stones fans are likely to remember the name of Brian Jones, one of the co-founders of the band who was the original leader of the group. By all accounts, Jones was a musical genius who was partially responsible for bringing together one of the all-time great rock bands. But he’s also a cautionary tale because of his addiction problems that claimed his life at an early age, which left him all but forgotten in the music scene.
The Stones and Brian Jones features rare footage of the original band for the first time, as the film explores just how pivotal Jones actually was. There are also interviews with the band and others who lived through this lost chapter of rock history.

Oppenheimer (2023)
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer may have been overshadowed by the Barbie half of the Barbenheimer phenomenon, it is one of the director’s best films to date. Cillian Murphy stars as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man who played a key role in the creation of the Atomic Bomb at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Emily Blunt co-stars as Robert’s wife, Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, and the couple doesn’t always see eye-to-eye. But in the years after Robert’s atomic test, he and Kitty are united against the efforts of Lewis Strauss (Robert Downey Jr.) to destroy Robert’s legacy and influence.
